Join our team of coaches working to help families construct a secure and hopeful financial future.
The opportunity to build assets shouldn’t be reserved for middle and upper-income families. Many of our principal life dreams require savings — a home, higher education, retirement, and the launch of a new business. Without the benefits of savings, these life dreams can feel out of reach for many families with low incomes.
Savings and assets also help to give families security during challenging times, like the COVID-19 epidemic facing us today. Without savings, families are forced to make impossible choices between basic needs, access to medical care, and the risk of infection.
It is asset poverty, rather than income poverty, which is the true measure of inequality in the United States. When it comes to building assets, families of color are at a significant disadvantage — especially women. The racial wealth gap that exists in Greater Boston is illustrated by the disparity between the average net worth of White residents ($247,500) and those of US-born Black residents ($8).
As a financial coach, you’ll help individuals stretch beyond the systems, policies, and practices that prevent people of color from building wealth. Moreover, you’ll help families discover and achieve their dreams.
Our flagship model for the Family Self-Sufficiency ("FSS" program) has been independently evaluated and shown to meaningfully increase household income and decrease reliance on welfare funds. Clients who participate in the program gain access to:

Mariluz has worked her entire life. She first started working with her grandmother in the Dominican Republic. At age nineteen she moved to the United States. Despite a lifetime of hard work, Mariluz never felt like her life was secure and stable.
Several years ago, Mariluz decided it was time for her to build a stronger financial future for herself and her children. A postcard informed her about the Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) program run by Compass and her housing provider, Metro Housing|Boston.
With the support of her coach, Mariluz set bold goals. Not only did she want to grow her own small business, but she wanted to prove to her children that her dream of homeownership was possible.
Mariluz has always been an organized and planful person. These strengths helped her to take full advantage of the financial workshops and financial coaching sessions offered to her free of charge by Compass Working Capital.
Mariluz partnered with her financial coach to guide her plans and to help her inspire the confidence she needed to achieve her goals. She took control of her finances and carefully tracked progress towards her savings targets.
Reflecting on her progress, Mariluz told her coach, “It’s hard to believe how with a few changes and fixing my finances, everything has changed.”
